Mask On | Shirt Off: My Bali Adventure
Today marks 70 days in Bali - what a trip! I arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for a Yoga Teacher Training. I had just spent a week taking in the pre-Mardi Gras parties in Sydney and I was ready to reconnect with myself in Ubud, known as a hub for yoga and spiritual offerings of every shape and color.
The training was intense (and worthwhile!) but took up most of the daylight hours. There wasn’t much time to explore around Ubud or the stair situation here. By the time the training was over, corona precautions were in full swing and exploring Bali or hiking to find stairs wasn’t really in the cards.
As we shift to a new normal for the medium term, so much of what makes Bali a tourist delight isn’t available - temples, waterfalls, and beaches are closed, restaurants are mostly offline, streets empty compared to peak Ubud, masks everywhere. And yet there is still something so special about this place even with all these adjustments and differences.
But what I love about this shot is the *slight* return to normalcy, and even finding normalcy in the most abnormal times. I put on a mask, stayed socially distanced, and gathered up the will to test the waters on one of my most personal hobbies, exploring stairs.
Ubud and the rest of the world won’t be back to normal anytime soon - and yet the stairs are there and waiting! It was nice to stay hello.
